Brief Overview of Activision:
Activision Publishing, Inc. is an American video game publisher. It was founded on October 1, 1979, and was the world’s first independent developer and distributor of video games for gaming consoles. Its first products were cartridges for the Atari 2600 video console system published from July 1980 for the US market and from August 1981 for the international market (UK). The Video Game that I’ve created and thought of is loosely based on the popular game genre “Call of Duty – Zombies”. I’ve had a passion for CoD since WaW (World at War). The main storyline of CoD Zombies has intrigued me and many others around the world. It’s stunning visual art and graphics captures the audience while simultaneously encapsulating them with an interesting story and relatable characters, who traverse through multiple dimensions to fix the past so that they can do right by the future.
I wanted to create a game which mimicked the original trilogy “Call of Duty Black Ops and of course World at War (Which started the Zombies add-on)” However, I wanted to change the storyline completely, due to the fact that the initial story didn’t completely make sense and therefore left players with more questions than answers. The timeline that I will create will progress in chronological order so that the player can understand what happened, and therefore, create a better connection with the characters, setting, environment and overall, the game itself.
For a game to be enjoyable, the player must be able to feel a part of the experience and ultimately have a purpose when accomplishing a given task. I felt that within Call of Duty: Zombies, the storyline was weak because of the fact that it involved many interdimensional universes which all had a separate storyline in itself, this, in turn, led to the player becoming confused and not knowing why or how everything tied in with each other. I hope to overcome this fault, by forming a timeline of events which are straight forward and don’t “jump” from one Universe to another without complete, explanation.
The main aspect of the Zombies culture and environment is heavily based on WWII, especially “The Nazi Socialists” which was a political party that dominated Europe during the Second World War. Ideaworks Game Studio is a company which created the initial idea of the popular genre “Nazi Zombies”which then carried on throughout the trilogy of Black Ops. The multiplayer within the Black Ops series and the one-off (World at War) are associated with real life conflicts, which are supposed to depict how “war” would have been.
Here are some links to sites which explain the original storyline in depth:
The link above explains the whole of the Zombies Story in depth. It goes through each event with links embedded into the text to give information on the situation. Whereas the bottom link is a short summary of the game. Both are relevant as they have different ways of telling the story. Furthermore, the second link gives details of when, where, why, who and how the game was developed.
“In the year 1939, the world was threatened by a second world war after Germany’s chancellor and supreme dictator Adolf Hitler rose to power. Dr. Ludvig Maxis formed Group 935 as an international German-led research team and emerged as its head scientist. Maxis sought to use a mysterious new element, which he had named Element 115, to improve the human condition by developing advanced technologies, and enlisted Dr. Edward Richtofen as his senior assistant rather than an equal partner, much to his chagrin. However, the group’s goal immediately detoured due to a lack of funding, and Maxis regretfully turned to making a contract with the Nazi Wunderwaffe Program to use 115 as a power source for deadly new weaponry to help the Axis Powers win the war. Maxis hoped that after the war, the generous funds and Germany’s ultimate victory would put Group 935 in a much better position to help the world.”
During the Second World War, Adolf Hitler ordered scientists to explore ancient sites in order to find information or substances which could help win the war. Two scientists, who were in control of the exploration, flew to Mexico, in hopes to find such information. Due to unforeseen events, the plane’s engine malfunctioned causing the two scientists, the pilot, and a soldier to crash-land on a small island 50 miles off the coast. Within this unknown location, a small temple created from a strange rock source, stood, hidden in the forest. The team of four entered the temple and came across a tablet. The tablet had hieroglyphics etched on the front. The structure of the Tablet was obscure, it had a crystal-like texture and had an ominous green glow around it, almost as if it was energized.
